IUPUI Campus Health, in partnership with the Marion County Public Health Department, will offer the monkeypox vaccine between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Oct. 20 at the IUPUI Campus Center Room 031.
The clinic is free and open to anyone at risk of exposure to the virus. Affiliation with the university is not required.
According to the Indiana Department of Health, people more likely to get monkeypox include:
- People who have been identified by public health officials as a contact of someone with monkeypox.
- People who are aware that one of their sexual partners in the past two weeks has been diagnosed with monkeypox.
- People who had multiple sexual partners in the past two weeks in an area with known monkeypox.
Those seeking the vaccine will be asked to attest that they are high risk but will not be questioned about their risk factors. The clinic will be walk-in only, no appointments. Attendees will register upon arrival at the clinic.
Indiana University is closely following the outbreak and is developing internal public health guidance, coordinating with on-campus student health centers in regard to clinical presentation and testing, and raising general awareness about monkeypox.
Protect IU has also launched a page that contains information and frequently asked questions. That site will be updated if the outbreak should impact the university and its multiple campuses across the state.
Forty-one people were vaccinated at the first monkeypox vaccine clinic at the Campus Center in September.
