While students typically engage in research during their second year, participants will learn about research, scholarship and creative activity from their earliest days on campus. No previous research experience or minimum GPA is required to participate.
“Student researchers play a critical role in the research happening every day at IUPUI, making important contributions and collaborating on projects with real-world impact,” said Phaedra Corso, IU associate vice president for research and vice chancellor for research at IUPUI. “We are thrilled to offer this opportunity to our first-year students, introducing them to the many ways research and creative activity can positively enhance their university experience.”
Students will be paired with a faculty mentor and work with peers on a team project that spans a wide array of disciplines. Eighty-eight projects are available in areas such as biohealth informatics, liberal and fine arts, psychology, medicine, and more.
Students will work on their projects for approximately five hours per week — either in-person, virtually or hybrid — during the fall 2023 and spring 2024 semesters. At the end of each semester, $1,000 will be deposited into their bursar accounts, and they will receive one credit hour for completion of the yearlong program.
